Thanks to all who participated in the Clevenger Founders' Series.
Visitors from several states came to view this special family exhibit, many brought pictures, many contributed items, and a lot of emails were exchanged during the Clevenger Family series. Even though the Clevenger Series concluded at the end of 2007, volunteers continue to process the information that was gathered during the series. If you have items you would still like to contribute for the Clevenger Family, please contact the museum. |

No matter how you spell it, Clevenger or Clevinger, Saturday, September 15, is your day at the Excelsior Springs Museum & Archives. Are you a Clevenger? Were you born a Clevenger? Do you have a Clevenger ancestor? The museum is honoring this family, one of the earliest to settle in the Excelsior Springs area. The Clevengers participated in the founding of our town. “Our volunteers have provided the 1880 census of Fishing River Township in both Clay and Ray counties. Come in and find your family,” says a museum spokesperson. “If you do not know your early day family’s history, perhaps we can help you determine the correct line.” Members of the local genealogical society will be on hand to make family group sheets for you or lineage charts for your family. Louise Crum Russell is honoring her mother’s ancestry by donating items from the Moses Clevenger family. Would you like to donate a piece of great-grandmother’s china? A tool used by your great-grandfather on the family farm? How about old pictures, wills, or military records? The museum will copy the information and you may take the originals home again, or the museum will use your originals, if you wish. Items may be donated or loaned to the museum for the length of the display. A locked display case will be available for Clevenger artifacts. There will be a map of the area showing where Clevengers owned land. Also, a tape recorder will be available if you have a special story you remember about the history of your ancestors. This display will run from September 15 until Christmas. If you are unable to attend on the designated Clevenger Day, come in at a later date and enjoy seeing your family display. |
