| In 1978, the Excelsior Springs City Council passed an ordinance providing for the establishment of an Historical Preservation Commission. In April 1989, the Commission passed an in-depth ordinance "providing for the preservation of the heritage of, and significant historical features and landmarks within, the City of Excelsior Springs, Missouri." The responsibility of the Commission includes to identify and preserve the distinctive historic and architectural characteristics of Excelsior Springs which represent elements of the City's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history; fosterer civic pride in the beauty and noble accomplishments of the past as represented in Excelsior Springs landmarks and historic districts; and protect and enhance the attractiveness of the City to homebuyers, tourists, visitors, and shoppers, and thereby support and promote business, commerce, industry, and provide economic benefit to the City. |
