Countries of the World
There are a lot of places you can look when researching different
countries. Here are some sources in the Library Media Center.
1. Amiglobe
is an interactive globe located on the desktop. Be sure to check it out!
2. The Lands and Peoples Encyclopedia
is an excellent place to start because
it gives you a detailed overview of each of the countries
of the world, complete
with pictures, maps and charts.
3. The World Almanac and Information Please Almanac have handy charts
of information about specific countries.
4. Encarta Encyclopedia
(click the icon on the desktop)

A great place to start. Type in a nation and get all kinds of statistical
information.
Listen to their National Anthem, too!
City.Net
Click on a region in the map or the list to go to a list of countries in that region.
Once you click on a specific country, you'll find links to sites with information on
travel, culture, newspapers and more.
The CIA World Factbook
Click on a region in the map or the list to go to an alphabetical list of countries in
that
region. Once you click on a specific country, you will go to a page with information on
its geography, people, government, economy, transportation, communications, and
defense. Some pages link to pictures of the country's map and flag.
Independent States in
the World
This page is from the U.S. State Department. It lists all of the independent states of the
world with their short-form name (e.g., United States), long-form name (e.g., United
States of America), code 2 (e.g., U.S.), and Capital (e.g., Washington DC).
InfoNation
from the United Nations
This site has information on all the countries in the United Nations. Click on a region on
the map or go directly to the list of countries on the right of the screen and click one
or
more countries and then the "Data Menu" button. This brings you to a chart of
topics that
you can learn about for each country. Just click on four different topics (e.g.,
"Capital
city," "currency," "population," and "school
enrollment") and then click the "View Info"
button. Here you will see the information you requested.
World Travel guide - Country
Selector
Follow the directions on the site to find information on the country you are interested
in.
You will find information on the geography, culture, history, and government of each
country.
A-Z Atlapedia Online
Click on the first letter of the country you are interested in and then click on the
name of the country. This will take you to a page with all kinds of information
including the climate, people, religion, location, industry, products and more.

Check out the embassy of a specific country for information.
