On the Day You Were Born...

Where to Begin?


Get an overview of what happened during
your year of birth.

1.  Handouts from Encyclopedia of Facts and Dates for
    1982 and 1983.

2.  General almanacs (Information Please and World
    Almanac and Book of Facts.)  Look in chapters
    "Headline History" and "Current Events."

3.  Chronologies.  Books that cover events in a chronological
     manner:

       909.928/OUR          Our Century
        973.927/PRI             Pride and Prosperity
        973.927/KAL            The 1980s

       909.82/CAM            The 1980's
        REF/973/CAR          Encyclopedia of American Facts and Dates
        REF/973/CHR          Chronicle of America
        REF/909.82/CHR     Chronicle of the 20th Century
        REF/909.82/TWE    20th Century

4.  Web Links:

     Livin' in the Eighties
     Any Year Today in History
     dMarie Time Capsule
     This Day in History
     Infoplease (Click on Year by Year Chronology


Look for more in-depth information on the important issues, events, ideas that you have chosen.

1.  Books.  Use Athena (the Library Catalog)
    to look for books in the specific areas you have chosen.         

2.  Other Reference Books.  Browse the REF/700s for
     information concerning sports, art movies, television;
     REF/800s for literature; REF/900s for 20th century
     history and people.

3.  Magazine Fulltext Elite and SIRS
    Look for magazine and newspaper articles using any
    search terms you have found thus far in your research.

4.  Internet.  Looking for information on the Internet can
     be very time-consuming.  Try to find information in
     books and magazines first.
